This is announced by the holding company Embracer Group Square Enix Montreal turns off. This happens almost half a year after the studio was taken over for 300 million dollars together with Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.
Square Enix Montreal was recently renamed Studio Onoma. Founded in 2011, the developer was best known for mobile games such as Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go.
The holding company says that after careful consideration, it has made the decision to close the studio and focus on the continued expansion of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal and their key franchises.
Now that Onoma is closing, 200 jobs will be cut, but Embracer doesn’t want to let those employees go just like that. That’s why he’s now checking whether people qualify for vacancies in other development teams.
According to Jason Schreier’s rumors, further expansion of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal has already begun thanks to a new Deus Ex that is in a “very early” stage of development.
